During our Math block we used our "Function Machine" to complete an in-and-out-chart, worked with Mr. Gurtman on adding to ten to make teen numbers, we completed several activities to help us understand the pairs of numbers that add up to ten and we worked with Ms. Audet on our number scrolls. Friday we worked at several quick centers where we practiced adding small numbers and sorting 3-d shapes. We successfully completed our last unit of study during our Writer's workshop. On Tuesday, we shared our books about what we think is "the best" with the writer's in Miss. Mulqueen's class. We are looking forward to sharing these books with you at our Celebration of Learning in June. During our Reader's workshop we each received a new just-right book from Ms. McCormack. We worked with Ms. Audet to think about letters in order and with Miss. Jess to put non-consecutive letters into alphabetic order. During our centers we practiced sorting pictures by their "vowel sound", writing words that end with a "super-strong-silent e and making and reading short words. IMPORTANT DATES May 29 and 30 (Tuesday AND Wednesday) will be screening for incoming Kindergarten children. Since Kindergarten teachers administer part of this screener there will be no school for Kindergarten children on those two days. June 1 at 9:30 is our Kindergarten Concert. Families and friends are welcome. Please join us in the classroom after the concert to say a quick hello! June 15 at 1:45 we will have a Celebration of Learning. This is an opportunity for each child to share some of what they have learned this year with a favorite adult. Parents or another adult family member are welcome. More information was e-mailed to you this week. There is a Sign-up Genius to RSVP. June 19 (rain date June 20) is our field trip to Fort Foster. We will be there for most of the school day. Parents are welcome to chaperone this trip. June 21 (rain date June 22) Kindergarten fun day. Parent volunteers help to make this a wonderful time for the children, siblings are welcome to join in the fun. June 26 is the last day of school. It is a half-day. Enjoy this looong weekend. During our Math block we worked on our number scrolls with Mr. Gurtman, made 3-d representations of objects in our classroom, created a map of our classroom and we played "What's My Rule?" using the function machine. During our Reader's workshop we worked at centers where we practiced reading short words, writing Spring words and reading our spelling words. We also played BOOM!, power tower and sorted pictures with a short /a/ or short /o/ sound. This week we have been working on our Massive Flower Project. Thursday afternoon we went to the maker space to cut out and assemble our flowers. IMPORTANT DATES
