Thank you again for your generosity in supporting the York Food Pantry by sending in over 113 cans of “meat”. On Thursday afternoon we went to the gym and arranged our cans into the shape of a tuna fish. Friday morning we joined the rest of our school in the gym to celebrate 100 days of school! Back in the classroom we celebrated the 100th day with several different activities. We made 100 item crowns and wrote about 100 things we'd keep and 100 things we'd give away. In the afternoon, Mrs. Heelan and Mrs. Bishop joined us to help us make 100 bead necklaces and 100 part monsters. This week we made special Valentine’s Day cards for our families and we read stories about kindness and friendship. With lots of help from parents we crafted a Valentine Monster, completed a foam heart graph, tossed Cupid’s arrows (and practiced adding small numbers), searched for numbers to make a mystery picture, walked on hearts to sort by vowel sound, and we delivered our Valentines. Thank you to Gail Wigham, Kazue Heelan, Jess Bussey, Samantha Donnell, Meaghan Foster, Lauren Mendoza and Ashley Bourbeau for leading activities during this fun time. At the end of our party we opened our Valentines and thanked our classmates for the wonderful cards we were given. Please check out our Photo Gallery page for pictures from our party. During our reader’s workshop we each read with Ms. Audet and got new just-right books. We made a book to practice reading words in the -at word family, practiced making letters the Kindergarten way at write-the-room, and quickly read our spelling words while we played Power Tower. On Friday we read with our Reading Buddies. During our Math block we learned about the subtraction symbol, used playdough to discover the 2-d shapes that make up 3-d shapes and we counted and made number models for teen numbers. We also counted to 100 several times! During our writer’s workshop we completed our study of How-to books. We learned that writers write a conclusion to their how-to books so they don’t just endand we chose a favorite how-to book to publish. On Thursday we shared a how-to book with the writer’s in Miss. Mulqueen’s class. Our March share will be a creation share. Details and the date of your child's share can be found on the "Share Dates" page of this website. We will celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday in these wacky ways: During our February vacation I hope you and your family remain healthy and that you enjoy this time with family and friends.
