Top O' the afternoon to you. We had fun working and playing with all things green and shamrock'y this week. The leprechauns played tricks in our classroom and we read books and poems featuring these mischievous creatures. We hunted for and then read small words written on shamrocks and we practiced reading and writing harder sight words by writing them on rainbows. At our assembly on Thursday one of our favorite Kindergarten teachers, Miss. Mulqueen, danced and Irish Step Dance for us. We continue to enjoy our creation shares! This week we continued our study of Pushes and Pulls. We investigated how easy or hard it was to pull objects of varying weights. We are also enjoying the snow on our playground. Thank you for sending snow gear every day!

During our Reader's workshop we all got new just-right books, read with Ms. McCormack, practiced identifying and writing "diagraphs" (/sh/, /ch/, /th/ and /wh/), and worked at centers to practice reading and building some tricky sight words such as said, come, play and look. This week we began a new Science unit exploring the concepts of PUSH and PULL. During Writer's workshop we practiced writing short stories using everything we know about what makes writing easy to read. We made sure our sentences started with a capital letter, had spaces between words and ended with punctuation. We also tried to write more! We worked hard to write three (!!) sentences every time. During our math block we played Growing AND Disappearing Train, wrote number models to match number stories, practiced adding and subtracting small numbers on a number line and practiced measuring. We worked with Mr. Guertman to complete a color by number adding small numbers and we played count and sit counting by 10's. This week we began following a mated pair of eagles. Every day during our snack time we check on a family of eagles in Decorah Iowa through the Raptor Resource Project. If you would like to check them out the website can be found at: https://www.raptorresource.org/birdcams/decorah-eagles/ We will continue to watch them as their eggs hatch and their chicks grow. Just a reminder that our "creation share" will continue for the rest of the month. Please let me know if you have any questions.
