What a wacky week!! We had wacky hair and backwards clothes, silly socks and cool hats. We read about Dr. Seuss and we read books written by Dr. Seuss. We’ll read a few more next week along with some other favorite “easy read” books. During our Math block we learned a game called Hiding Bears. To play this game each partnership starts with ten bears. One partner hides their eyes while the other partner hides some of the bears under a bowl. The first partner then counts the number of bears they can see and figures out how many bears are hiding. Finding combinations that add up to 10 is a Kindergarten Math goal and this is a fun way to practice that! We practiced writing numbers the kindergarten way, used spinners to find attribute blocks, and used the subtraction symbol when we played Disappearing Train. On Thursday we were treated to a performance by the Portland Symphony orchestra. The tuba, french horn, trombone, and trumpet played as a performer read the book The Circus Ship. During our reader’s workshop everyone received a new just-right book from Ms. McCormack and on Friday we read with our Reading Buddies. We illustrated a new poem and worked at centers to help us read and write our spelling words. We had a fun and wacky week! We are looking forward to starting our Creation Shares on Monday. If you have any questions, please let me know.
