We had a fabulous holiday party thanks to some wonderful parent volunteers. After we enjoyed a gingerbread cookie snack, Mrs. Heelan, Mr. and Mrs. Behm, Mrs. Mendoza and Mr. Donnell helped the children with games or activities. At our party children enjoyed the Pho-Ho-Ho-to Booth, played tic-tac toe, roll-a-santa, and cookie toss. They could also choose to decorate a tree, complete a number hunt, or play "Pin the Heart on the Grinch" or "Holiday Bingo". There are lots more pictures on our photo gallery page! During our Math block we learned that there are different ways to show numbers, discovered that counting by tens is a quick way to count big numbers and played Top-It with “teen” number cards. During our Reader’s workshop we read new just-right books with Ms. McCormack, worked with Ms. Audet to complete a hidden picture by reading our spelling words, learned a new spelling word it, completed a spelling-word dice race and worked at several independent centers to help us practice our spelling words, identify letter sounds, write letters or enjoy a book on tape. When Mrs. Benoit visited us this week she taught us more about the “hidden rules” that are important for us to think about. She also talked to us about behavior that is expected and behavior that is unexpected. Expected behavior makes people feel happy, comfortable and want to be our friend. Unexpected behavior (unthinkable moments) makes people feel unhappy, confused and they may not want to play or work with us. I was planning on having one more day this week! As grateful as I am to have this day at home to do some baking, I’m disappointed at not seeing the children today. I was looking forward to our all-school assembly, packing up the children’s December creations and to spending a nice quiet day in our jammies. We will plan to have our Pajama Day on Friday January, 5th. I hope you enjoy this break from the demands of a school routine and I’ll see you next year!!
