These last, chilly days of fall have seen us with snow pants, hats, mittens and short (but much needed) periods of outside play. Getting dressed in all that gear gets just a little bit easier each time we do it. Today, as we started to read a story, a gingerbread clue fell right out of our book! We followed the clues around our school gathering up decorating supplies as we went. We returned to our classroom and found some plain gingerbread that needed some dressing-up! During our Writer’s workshop we learned that writers use the real words to tell their story even if those words are hard to write. We practiced using our picture as we plan the words for our story and we shared our stories with our partner. We wrote special messages to our families and we wrote about who we thought the gingerbread man could run away from. During our Math block we looked at 10 Frames and discussed how we knew how many dots there were. We practiced naming and counting to “teen” numbers. We learned that teen numbers are tricky to read because they don’t really follow the pattern that other numbers follow. We practiced making shapes with pattern blocks and learned that counting by 10’s is a quick way to count to high numbers. We also played the dreidel game and completed a Hanukah dice race. During our Reader’s workshop we learned that our partners can help us to remember to use our reading super powers. We got new just right books for our book boxes and we made little books featuring the gingerbread man and our spelling word “is”. We practiced reading our spelling words, and sorting objects by their first sound and worked on our gingerbread write the room.
