Pajama day was a success!! It was fun to work today with our stuffies and in our comfy clothes. As a class we decided that we like earning marbles for following the group plan and showing expected behavior. so we voted and we’ll be working to earn a fun movie as an afternoon treat. This week we began our study of Mexico. After packing our suitcase and signing our passports, we boarded the plane and (using Google Earth) flew to Mexico. We used Google street view to check out some of the sights in the city, the desert and the rainforest and we took a ride on a couple of busses (using YouTube) in and around the country. During our Writer’s workshop we learned that writers are careful to tell or show how the people in their stories are feeling and they will often end their stories by writing how the people in are feeling. We had time to work on our stories and we used a checklist to make sure our stories are the best they can be. During Reader’s workshop everyone got a new just-right book and we learned that we can use Picture Power to help read tricky words. During our centers we identified beginning sounds, practiced writing winter words, matched names to pictures and built those names. We listened to The Big Snow at the listening center and practiced reading and writing our spelling words. During our Math block we compared the weight of several things using a pan balance and the capacity of several containers. We looked closely at a 100’s grid. We noticed that numbers go past 100 (!), that our growing number grid is smaller than 100, we looked at numbers that come before some numbers and we circled that numbers that you say when you count by 10’s.
