During our Writer's workshop each writer began a new opinion piece about something they think is the best. We're using everything we know about strong writing to make these pieces the best they can be. During our Reader's workshop each reader received two just right books. We practiced reading short words, writing farm words, identifying a vowel sound in words and we had fun writing a conversation between some farm animals. During our Math block we learned learned that “function machines” are a fun way to encourage algebraic thinking. We practiced “inputting” numbers, applying a rule such as “plus one” and then figuring out which number would come out. We played Make My Design and completed a dice race.
